How to podcast

Thank you for your interest in how-to begin a podcast.  I went to an expert to get my questions answered, Marc Ronick of iRonick Media He is a podcast coach & producer, and if you want your own strategy consult, contact him via his linktr.ee/ironickmedia

Recently, I dealt with a nightmare on my hypnosis website. It still is not operational. With research I discovered the Clubhouse app, I discovered a community of experienced podcasters sharing their wealth of information. And to my amazement, I discovered there were hosting sites just for podcasts that connected your episodes to Apple, Google, Spotify and others. At that point I felt dumb and numb, because I had lost all my episodes hosted on my URL that crashed and burned beyond saving.

Here’s the fabulous part of this community, they did not make me feel less than due to my ignorance. They guided me, helped with my audio, did graphic audits, and even gave voice techniques for better quality.

Now, for an unsolicited ad for this podcast community. The club Empowered Podcasting is home to the Podcasting Morning Chat ™ and meets Monday through Friday at 7:00 a.m. eastern. Marc is host of the Podcasting Morning Chat ™. After joining the Clubhouse Empowered Podcasting Club, join us on facebook. Please, join us if you are curious or serious about podcasting. I, personally, feel as if I’ve cheated my morning start to the day, if I miss the chat.

We pulled together a list of fourteen points to check off as you begin the process of filtering ideas about your podcast. These are the main points. Marc and the moderators cover the finer details in the Podcasting Morning Chat. If you can’t make the morning chat, check out the Thursday Afternoon Chat on Thursday’s at 3:00 p.m. eastern or join Sean Dustin and myself on Friday evenings at 8:00 p.m. eastern.  I get to kick the trolls out and learn about podcasting while co-hosting with Sean.

Back to point, below is the list of fourteen points to consider while pulling together your podcast.

1- Research Name – use keywords when possible for your topic.

2- Decide on Name of Podcast

3- Are you a business? Is your podcast going to fall under your corporate name?

4- Not a business but you’ll be selling merch? When you get to the point of selling merchandise, visit your county seat for a transient vendor’s license. This type of license allows you to sell in multiple places. A regular vendor’s license allows you to sell from one spot like your studio (closet, basement, spare room). Authors can use the same vendors license they use for book events.

5-Set up an email to receive spam and real email. Use this to register your podcast with a podcast host.

6- Choose your podcast host. This is different from GoDaddy, Bluehost, or HostGator. I use Anchor.fm, there are others also. Buzzsprout, Podbean, Libsyn, and many more.

7- Design your podcast show logo. I used Canva.com.  Make sure it can clearly be seen, read, and not too busy.  Consider 2-3 words for your title and no more than 3 colors, consider solid color backgrounds.

8- Use Audacity.com (free) or GarageBand (free) to record your show trailer. This is a 60 second blurb about what your podcast will deliver.

9- List 10 weeks of podcast topics. This is now your content calendar. If you can list 52, all the better. Statistics show pod fade develops about episode 8. By preplanning it helps to eliminate pod fade, that’s when the podcasting honeymoon is over. This strategy is based on a weekly podcast. It would be a different strategy if it were a daily distribution or even a monthly distribution. Weekly is the most common form of podcast.

10- Record your first three to five podcasts before uploading them to your podcast host.

11- On the audio app, Clubhouse, join the Empowered Podcast Club, fill out your profile telling us about your podcast and add your twitter and instagram links to it.

12- Join us Monday – Friday at 7:00 a.m. eastern for Podcasting Morning Chat(™) only on Clubhouse.

13- Join us Thursday at 3:00 p.m. eastern Podcast Afternoon Chat only on Clubhouse.

14-Join us Friday at 8:00 p.m. eastern for the Podcast Evening Chat only on Clubhouse.
