Samhain Publishing set up shop in Cincinnati or close by. They felt like the home grown publisher who made it in a sea of sharks. It is unfortunate to read about their journey to the end of the road.
My memories are not as an author. Quinn Langston is a dear friend of mine and Samhain Published her steampunk vampire series, Clockwork Army. As one of their new horror authors, Quinn was invited to HorrorHound for the festivities. We dressed steampunk, took loads of photos, tweeted, facebooked, and enjoyed ourselves.
Samhain invited us for their pre- pizza party, where I met several of the horror authors and many of the staff. The tour of the building included advertising goody room, conference rooms, and the Barshear’s offices.
I felt like and was treated as the outsider I was and that feeling never shifted. I was disappointed that a friendly acquaintance sensation never developed. Because of that sense, I never submitted any of my work there. After HorrorHound each night, the sense of camaraderie evaporated. Still the sagacity of small town publisher making it, remained a good feeling to have toward them.
[(_) (_)] cheers to the Barshear’s for giving it a good run.
